Christine Stewart’s seascape paintings are inspired by her deep connection to water, from the energy of ocean waves to the stillness of quiet lakes. Through layered acrylics, she captures the movement, light, depth, and transparency of water. Painting water allows her to find certainty and comfort within its natural rhythms. Her work explores the emotional duality of being near water—its ability to bring both calm reflection and renewed energy. Each painting is an invitation for viewers to immerse themselves in the experience.
Christine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from York University. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Education degree from OISE, University of Toronto and has nearly 20 years of experience teaching art in the public schools in Ontario and privately to youth and adults.
In addition to creating paintings for public exhibitions and private collections, Christine is a member of the Newmarket Group of Artists. She balances her art practice with being a full-time teacher.
“I am excited about capturing the fleeting moments of movement, transparency and light of water. Water is always moving yet it’s also a constant, larger presence. It invites us to consider the concept of time and our place in it. As I paint, time also seems to dissolve in a flow state, mirroring the fluidity of the subject itself. Through each brushstroke, I process emotion and memory, capturing not a single instant, but the ongoing rhythm. For me, it’s about much more than depicting what my reference material looks like. Being near water creates deep joy, peace, calm, or energy. I want to bring viewers’ feelings and memories of being at a lake, ocean or pool into their experience of looking at my art, in hopes of inspiring joy and peace.”
